Volunteers needed to join committee and help keep town carnival thriving

Dunmow Carnival’s organising committee is appealing for fresh faces to come forward and volunteer their services to keep the event thriving.

The carnival, which was founded in 1952, returns on September 15 this year and will once again take up residence on the town’s recreation ground.

A line-up of floats and the carnival queen and princesses will also be parading around the town, honouring the long-observed carnival traditions.

In order for the event to continue to grow and thrive, however, the carnival committees is appealing for new volunteers to help with the organising and running of the event.

Keith Wheatcroft, former chairman of the procession committee, said: “If you feel public-spirited enough to give up a few hours of your time to help make this event a success, we would be happy to hear from you.”

Mr Wheatcroft said the committee was particularly interested in hearing from anyone who would like to help with the catering this year, which includes making a tea for the carnival court.

Also upcoming is the selection event for the carnival queen and princesses.

The event takes place at 7pm on March 23 at the Dourdan Pavilion, in The Causeway. Candidates for the carnival queen must be 14 years-old or older, with princesses aged between nine and 14.
